1. Don’t Walk Away
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Make sure the candle is completely out and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.
2. Secure The Area
Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper and flammable decorations. Keep your hair and loose clothing away from the flame.
3. Keep Away From Kids & Pets
Make sure children and pets cannot reach burning candles. Do not place lit candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
4. Avoid Drafts & Vents
Avoid drafts, vents or air currents. This will help prevent rapid or uneven burning and sooting. If not possible to avoid a draft make sure you turn the candle to avoid uneven burning.
5. Don’t Touch Or Move
Never touch or move a candle while it is burning or while the wax is liquefied. This will avoid possibly burn injury to hands or body and also by liquidized wax and avoid wax spillage.
6. Keep Candles 3″ Apart
Place burning candles at least three inches apart from one another. This is to make sure they don’t melt one another, or create their own drafts that will cause the candles to burn improperly.
7. Wax Pool Fires
Not following all care instructions increases the risk of wax pool fires. If wax pool becomes superheated, candle may suddenly erupt into flames.
Causes:
- Burn time too long
- Accumulated dust catching fire
- Increased oxygen supply due to draft
How to react when it happens:
- Don't Panic
- Don't move or touch candle whilst on fire
- Starve Oxygen supply using extinguishers, fire blanket, sand, baking soda, or a pot.
- Never use water as it may cause wax to spread
- Don't attempt to blow it out
- Pillar Candles:
- Before lighting your Pillar Candle, place it on a heatproof dish or candle plate that will collect any wax that may drip.
- Separate pillars by a minimum of 10cm to avoid lowering their burn quality & collapsing.
- Use a Candle Snuffer to prevent drifting wicks & help maximise burn time.
- Blowing out us not recommended as it will cause the wick to smoke & increase splattering wax.'
- Never use water to put out a pillar candle.
-Wooden Vessels
- Never let a candle in a wooden vessel burn below 1/2 inch to the bottom.
- EXTINGUISH and DISCONTINUE use of a candle when ½” of wax remains at the bottom of the wooden vessel.
Candle Care and Safety additional guidelines:
- Candle, container and/or wax can become hot to the touch when in use. Please handle with care.
- Upon first ever use, burn for at least two hours, or until the entire surface has turned to liquid wax. This will help prolong the life of your candle.
- Trim wick to 1/8” before each lighting. This will maintain an even and clean burn. Use a wick trimmer for a perfect trim.
- It is recommended that after burning the candle for three - four hours, extinguish, and allow to cool for two hours. Re-trim before relighting.
- Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting, such as a spotlight. Candles may fade if they are left in bright light for an extended period of time.
- Always burn candles on a stable, heat resistant surface. This can help prevent heat damage to underlying surfaces and prevent glass containers from breaking.
- EXTINGUISH and DISCONTINUE use of a candle when ½” of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.
- Keep wax pool free from wick and other debris at all times.
- Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax drippings from a glass holder. It might scratch, weaken, or cause the glass to break upon subsequent use.
- Extinguish a candle if it repeatedly smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. Cool, align and trim the wick as recommended, then check for drafts before relighting.
- Allow candles to cool completely before touching or moving.
- It is highly recommended to use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle. Never use water as it can cause wax to splatter or glass to break. Blowing out a candle can cause hot wax to blow outside of the candle causing unwanted wax spillage and a mess.
- Always read and follow the manufacturer’s use and safety instructions carefully.
Disclaimer - Be aware that failure to follow these instructions can lead to inaccurate burning time, heat damage, injuries and fire.
